The Arnold's Construction 10-U Decatur All-Stars recently concluded its postseason campaign with a 2-2 showing at the Hoagland 10-U All-Star Baseball Tournament.
Arnold's fell to the Harlan All-Stars 10-5, downed New Haven 8-5, stopped Monroeville 13-7, and fell to Kendallville 6-3. The two teams which defeated the local squad made it to the finals of the tourney.
In the opening loss to Harlan, Arnold's was held to a pair of hits, including an RBI single by John Wilder and a single by Caden Staub. The squad did draw eight walks.
Logan Arriaga took the loss, hurling the first two innings as Decatur yielded 7 runs. Wilder allowed a run, fanning two with one walk in two innings of relief. Staub allowed two runs, struck out two with zero walks.
In the win over New Haven, Wilder went 3-for-3 while Ulises Lozano had 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Braden Ball and Logan Arriaga hit safely. Wilder fanned two in three scoreless frames for the win. Kobe Ortiz hurled the final 3 frames, yielding 5 runs with two strikeouts and a walk.
Lozano went 3-for-3 while stroking 2 hits were Staub, Tanner Walker, and Wilder. Ortiz, Jace Hirschy, Ball and Kraig Blackburn all had hits for Arnold's. Staub hurled 3 innings of relief for the win, allowing 2 runs with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Walker hurled the final inning.
Staub had 2 hits in the loss to Kendallville, driving in all 3 Decatur runs. Blackburn, Wilder, and Lozano added hits. Wilder yielded 2 runs in 3 innings with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Ortiz hurled 2 innings with 2 strikeouts, no walks and 4 runs allowed.
