Erline M. Girard, 86, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born on April, 9, 1925 in Effingham, South Carolina, to Francis C. and Ethel M. (Cain) Freeman.
She married Adrian J. Girard Jr. on September 14, 1945; he passed away on January 18, 2004.
She is survived by four sons, Mike (Bobbie) Girard of Xenia, Ohio; Jeff (Victoria) Girard, Bruce (Jennifer) Girard, and Judd (Leisa) Girard, all of Decatur; three daughters, Suzzette (Robert) Prchal of Fort Wayne and twins Bonnie (Barney) Schultz and Barbara (Dave) Hitchcock of Decatur; one sister, Gerry Hood of Florence, South Carolina; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Erline was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the auxiliary at American Legion Post 43 and the auxiliary at Moose Lodge 1311, both in Decatur.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father David Voors officiating.
A closed-casket visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
A private burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Decatur at a later date.
