The Decatur Baseball Association officially kicked off its season Saturday with Opening Day festivities. Besides two official games and a practice game, pictures were taken of most of the teams, and Courtesy Motors General Manager Jim Kelley attended and tossed out the first ball.
Through a national Chevy Youth Baseball Program, Courtesy Motors of Decatur is backing Decatur Baseball with equipment, a monetary contribution, and through the sale of raffle tickets for two automobiles and other prizes.
In a Hoosier East Baseball Alliance Reese (11-12) game, Decatur Dentral topped Erie Haven 4-2. Trevor Ortiz was the winning pitcher.
In the Mays' (9-10) contest that followed. Decatur Dental got off to a big lead and held off a late rally by Kintz Insurance for a 16-14 decision.
In the Clemente Hitting Contest, several awards were given out. Mitchell Coates (21 points), Chase Murray (18), Isaac Ruble (16), Ben Razo (16) and Isaiah Wellman (16) were the top scorers in the contest as the seven- and eight-year-olds hit off the pitching machine.
Meals and milkshake certificates from Arnold's Drive-In were handed out to the winners.
Gianni Smyrniotis, Tanner Hirn, Kaden Bebout, Preston Siefring, Carson Friedt, Magness Lee, and Delsyn Lee also received certificates for their performances.
