MONROE — A first place finish in the 1,600 meter relay by the Adams Central boys track team Friday night allowed the Jets to take a narrow 137-134 win over Fremont in the annual Adams Central Track Invitational.
The Jets had led 124-118 with two events remaining, but Fremont won the 3,200 run while AC finished fourth and the Eagles held a slim 128-127 lead going into the 1,600 relay. The AC crew of Chance Luginbill, Nick Heyerly, Dan Fiechter, and Kyle Fawcett placed first in 3:37.1 beating the third-place Fremont foursome by five seconds. That finish gave the Jets a 10-6 advantage for the win.
Southern Wells was a distant third in the boys meet with 69 points followed by Canterbury at 58, Monroe Central 40, and Daleville 18.
Adams Central had a much easier time in the girls meet beating second place Southern Wells by 55 points, 144-89. Other teams included Fremont 87, Monroe Central 72, Canterbury 54, and Daleville 8.
In the boys meet, the difference between Adams Central and Fremont was never more than eight points and that came after the 300 hurdles with AC holding a 102-94 advantage. Adams Central won four events in the boys meet while Fremont captured three. Minniear of Southern Wells was the star of the meet with three individual first place finishes for the Raiders; SW took four events overall. Monroe Central and Canterbury both won a pair of blue ribbons.
Adams Central's Troy Tonner was a double individual winner as he threw the discus 143'0 and the shot put 45'3. Colby Cauble in the 100 dash in :12.0 was the other first place finisher for the Jets.
Shawn Reinhard and Ethan Walburn picked up individual seconds in the 110 high hurdles and the 300 low hurdles respectively and the 400 relay team was also second. Picking up six team points with third place finishes were the 3,200 relay team, Reinhard in the long jump and 300 low hurdles, Fawcett in the 1,600 run, and Byerly in the 400 dash and 200 dash.
The Adams Central girls team scored eight first place finishes on the night to easily post victory.
MaKenna Macklin took the 100 hurdles in :17.3, Summer Harvey went 5'1 in the high jump, Briona Case posted a 15'6 leap in the long jump and also won the 100 dash in :13.6, the 400 relay team of Case, Erica Bluhm , Anna-Lena Vogel, and Macklin took :55.5 to win, Ashley Faurote beat the 400 dash field in 1:05, Bluhm snared the 300 low hurdles competition in :50.5, and the 1,600 relay crew of Harvey, Faurote, Bluhm, and Macklin ended up at 4:28.
Adams Central picked up 24 points with second place positions by the 3,200 relay team, Case in the 200 dash, and Kayla Isch in the 3,200 run, and got 12 from third place efforts by Sydnee Reinhard in the shot put and Macklin in the long jump.
