Dual theatrical events are scheduled on Saturday, April 30, at Bellmont High School:
The musical "The Phantom of the Opera" will begin its two-day run with a large cast and crew of BHS students.
In addition, Bellmont Theatre will be renamed "Erekson Memorial Theatre" in memory of the husband and wife whose efforts were visible on that stage in the early years of the school: Reid and Evelyn Erekson. The renaming will "commemorate their commitment to bringing quality theater to Decatur and Adams County," a BHS announcement said.
The two-act musical, one of the most popular in the world, is set in 1911 at the Paris Opera House, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe, and spoken words by Webber and Stilgoe.
Adults overseeing the student production are director Ric Geist, assistant director Ken Low, orchestra director Megan Corrigan, technical director Rick Smith, and business director Jeannie Smith.
Performances will be given at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1.
Reserved seats in the lower section are $7 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. General admission tickets in the upper section are $6 each.
In addition to tickets, advertisements may be purchased for inclusion in the program, the announcement saiid. Businesses and individuals may also make donations to become a theater patron.
