Bellmont won four sets by 6-0 scores and two more by 6-1 counts enroute to handing Wayne a 5-0 defeat in varsity tennis at the BHS courts Monday night.
The win was the second straight of the year for Bellmont while the match was the first of the season for Wayne.
Allison Gutierrez seemingly breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Marisa Martinez at number one singles but Bellmont coach Tom Smith pointed out "Allison's opponent was a much better play than the score would indicate. That shows how well Allison played."
Smith conceded the Squaws "were never challenged in the other varsity matches" but he anticipates a much different scenario tonight as the Bellmonters host a good Bishop Dwenger team in a 5 p.m. match.
Maddi Werling copped a 6-0, 6-4 decision at number two singles over Taylor Reid while the third singles match went to Alysha Helmrich who blanked Chelsey Tyner 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action, Abby Stimpson and Madeline Albert dropped a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Jayla May and Veronica Hayes, while at number two Shelby Kiess and Andrea Fruchte eased past Ashley Martin and Mary Cerajewski 6-1, 6-2.
The BHS jayvees also won over Wayne 6-0.
Katelyn Roe won two singles matches by scores of 8-0 and 8-4 while Andrea Chronister earned an 8-0 win in singles. Emily Koeneman and Kylie Beery took an 8-4 victory in doubles followed by Audrey Schultz and Jessa Okoniewski who were 8-6 winners and Mikayla Voglewede and Miranda Voglewede who posted an 8-4 triumph.
