Winifred L. Spaulding, 90, Decatur, died Monday, March 7, at the Woodcrest Nursing Center.
She was born on April 30, 1920, in Mandan, North Dakota, to the late Walter G. and Isabelle Rowe-Black. She was married on June 15, 1946, to Dr. John B. Spaulding; he survives.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church and several of the women's club groups at the church, she retired from Bellmont High School as an assistant librarian. She was also a former vice chairman of the Adams County Republican Party and received a Sagamore of the Wabash award from Gov. Otis R. Bowen, M.D.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Dr. Douglas G. (Diane) Spaulding of Indianapolis, and Joe Spaulding (Marsha) of Decatur; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel L. Davis; a brother, John Black; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at First Presbyterian Church in Decatur with Pastor Marcia Cline officiating. There will be a fellowship and sharing time after the service in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Preferred memorials are to the First Presbyterian Church of Decatur or to the Rachel Spaulding-Davis Endowment Fund within the Adams County Community Foundation.
