Barbara J. Thomas, 79, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Woodcrest Retirement Community's Nursing Center in Decatur.
She was born on March 18, 1931, in Barren County, Kentucky, to Sanford and Ethel (Mansfield) Gravens.
She married George R. Thomas on October 16, 1948; he passed away on September 21, 1984.
She is survived by four sons, George C. (Brenda) Thomas of Lagro, Indiana; Donald P. (Patricia) Thomas and William L. Thomas, both of Decatur; and John P. (Mandy) Thomas of Monroe; a daughter, Ethel Ann Thomas of Decatur; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, four sisters, and a son, Robert Ellis Thomas.
Barb worked as a homemaker and was also a florist with Lutes Flowers in Decatur for 36 years.
She was a member of American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and The Women of The Moose.
Visitation is 2-7 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.
The funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, February 7, 2011, at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home, 801 North Race St., Glasgow, Kentucky, with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon that day.
Burial will take place in Cedar Grove Cemetery at Glasgow, Kentucky.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association through the Adams County Community Foundation.
