North Adams Community Schools have received praise from State Superintendent of Instruction Tony Bennett for achieving adequate yearly progress (AYP) in each of the past seven years.
In a letter from Bennett to Superintendent Wylie Sirk, Bennett congratulated the district for its efforts.
"This is an outstanding accomplishment and I want to express my gratitude for the hard work of your teaching staff and the strength you have shown as superintendent in your district," Bennett's letter said.
"A high-quality education is critical in preparing our young people for the rigors of a 21st century global economy. The students in Southeast Elementary School will be better prepared for meeting those challenges because they have had the opportunity to attend one of our state's highest performing schools.
"Thank you for setting high standards for your students and your staff, and leading through example. I would also like to thank you for putting the students first in North Adams Community Schools. Your dedication to Indiana's young people is apparent," Bennett's letter concluded.
Sirk, during Tuesday evening's board of education meeting, said Bennett's praise is a testament to the staff, students, parents and board at North Adams.
