Dorothy Lucile Korte, 80, of Decatur, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday at her residence, following a 10-year battle with cancer.
She was born on November 28, 1930, in Convoy, Ohio, to Herman and Muriel Scaer Etzler.
She married Edwin Korte on June 27, 1953, in Convoy; he survives.
Dorothy retired from Fort Wayne National Bank in December of 1998 as a mortgage loan processor after 23 years of service. Following her retirement, she became the chief financial officer of the Haunted Barn Organization in the Hoagland area.
Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Preble and a former member of St. John Lutheran Church (Flatrock) for more than 45 years.
She was a 1948 graduate of Convoy High School.
Dorothy was an inspiration to many who met her and knew her.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Edwin Korte; two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Karen) Soldner of Roanoke and Mrs. Rich (Jean E.) Skaggs of Decatur; three sons, Ronald A. Korte and Thomas G. Korte (and wife Gelana) of Decatur and Timothy D. Korte (and wife Kim) of Roanoke; one brother, Marvin C. Etzler (and wife Eldora) of Lima, Ohio.; two sisters, Pauline M. and Donna M. Etzler of Van Wert, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Jeremiah Lenegar, Josh Korte, Brian Korte, Tyler Korte, Braden Korte, Jim Hendricks, Kelsey Skaggs; and Jonathan Skaggs; five stepgrandchildren, Rich Skaggs Jr., Lani and Nicki Soldner, and John and Cassidy Geller; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Dane Lenegar; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Tyler Sherill and Trey Skaggs.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret E. Bieberich.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2011, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble, with Pastor Daniel Brege officiating.
Burial will be in the cemetery at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Visiting hours are 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and 10-11 a.m. Friday in the church.
