Ann Mankey, 84, of Decatur, died at 2:58 a.m. Thursday in Lutheran Hospital at Fort Wayne.
She was born on April 26, 1926, in Munich, Germany to Klements Wechs and Anna Maria Greindl Burger Wechs.
She married Glen E. Mankey on August 3, 1948; he died on February 2, 1983. Ann was a World War II bride.
She was a homemaker and also worked for Dr. Harold Zwick and wife Helen and for Dr. H.S. Lee and wife Antoinette.
Ann loved to work in her garden and many people enjoyed passing by her Adams St. home to admire her beautiful flowers.
She loved her family and celebrated the events in each one's life, such as visiting the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo and attending graduations and countless sporting events.
Ann also enjoyed collecting Teddy Bears.
Christmas Eve at the Mankey home was always Ann's favorite time and some might say she "loved" the jolly old man in the red suit.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Stefan (Erika) Schotten of Sella Alcante, Spain; Mrs. Randy (Peggy A.) Fennig of Decatur; Mrs. Donald (Dianna M.) Budd of Fort Wayne; and Mrs. Randy (Nan K.) Everett of Decatur; five sons, Paul E. Mankey (and wife Sue) of Decatur; David A. Mankey of Fort Wayne; Arthur R. Mankey (and wife Sue) of Van Wert, Ohio; and Ted L. Mankey (and wife Sheri) and John W. Mankey, both of Decatur; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Ida) Bower of Toms River, New Jersey; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
One son, Greg W. Mankey, and one grandson, Trevor A. Mankey, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with Pastor "Mo" Hodge officiating.
Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
Visiting hours are noon-6 p.m. Sunday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials are to the Decatur Wrestling Club and to the Adams County Animal Shelter.
