Velma L. Ehlerding, 95, formerly of Decatur and New Haven, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2010, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Born in Willshire, Ohio, she was the daughter of Theodore and Amalia Hofmann.
She was a member of Martini Lutheran Church in New Haven. Previously, she belonged to Zion Lutheran Church (Friedheim) in rural Decatur and its sewing circle and Ladies' Aid group.
She was devoted to her family, rearing her four children while working side-by-side with her husband on their rural Decatur dairy farm.
She loved quilting, cross-stitching, knitting, and gardening.
She is survived by her sons, Don Ehlerding (and wife Mary Kay) of Fort Wayne, Darrel Ehlerding (and wife Kim) of Decatur, and Dale Ehlerding (and wife Joyce) of Fort Wayne; a son-in-law, Henry Cheung; grandchildren Christian Cheung, Mrs. Randy (Jamie) Miller, Mrs. Stefan (Jaclyn) McVey, Justin Ehlerding (and wife Kristin), and Jeremy, Jared, Donovan, Madelyn, Aaron, and Alex Ehlerding; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Ehlerding, in 1998; by a daughter, Alice Cheung in 1989; by a granddaughter, Jana Ehlerding; and by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, in Martini Lutheran Church, 333 Moeller Rd. in New Haven, with Rev. Matt Kohl officiating.
Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens at Fort Wayne.
Visiting hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.today in E. Harper and Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 East, New Haven, and 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to Martini Lutheran Church, the "Worship for Shut-Ins" program, Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, or the donor's choice.
