Evelyn L. Oetting, 78, of Decatur, died at 3:27 p.m. Wednesday in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born on January 28, 1932, in Adams County to William E. and Elizabeth L. Kirchner Macke. Her father is deceased; her mother lives in Decatur.
Evelyn married Henry O. Oetting on December 18, 1953, in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Preble and they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary recently.
She retired in 2003 after 17 years as the secretary of St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen and previously worked for Lincoln Life Insurance at Fort Wayne.
Evelyn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen, served on the Altar Guild and was a past member of the church choir and The Lutheran Chorale.
Other survivors are two sons, Carey W. Oetting (and wife Camille) and Ronald E. Oetting, both of Decatur; one brother, Frederick Macke of Decatur; one sister, Mrs. Curtis (Ruth) Lee of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Bryan Oetting, Jennifer Garringer, Brett Oetting, Doug Oetting, Corey Oetting, Alyssa Corral, Eli Hill, and Carly Oetting; and five great-grandchildren, Leah Oetting, Kevin Oetting, Lexi Garringer, Chevelle Oetting, and Jordan Strickler.
One brother, Richard Macke, and one granddaughter, Brooke Marie Oetting, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen, with Pastor John Dreyer officiating.
Burial will be the cemetery at St. John Lutheran Church.
Visiting hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen or to the "Worship for Shut-Ins" program.
