Gilbert O. "Gillie" Hoffman, 89, a rural Hoagland resident since 1945, died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday at his residence.
He was born on December 26, 1920, in Adams County to Victor and Pauline Bieberich Hoffman.
He married Florence L. Aumann on June 17, 1945, in St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen and she survives.
He was involved in the wire-drawing die industry for 68 years, including Hoosier and Heritage Wire Die, along with others. He also enjoyed farming for 59 years.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Sons of the American Legion at Post 43 in Decatur and was a life member of Wire Association International.
Other survivors are one daughter, Annette D. Ray of Decatur; two sons, Richard D. Hoffman (and wife Rhonda) and Chris D. Hoffman (and wife Tammy), both of Monroeville; one brother, Irvin Hoffman (and wife Carolyn) of Monroeville; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Sebesta and Marcella Kukelhan; one brother, Eugene Hoffman; and one son-in-law, Richard Ray.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen, with Rev. Peter Brock officiating.
Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery at Bingen.
Visiting hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. on Sunday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and 10-11 a.m. Monday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the organ fund at St. John Lutheran Church, to Parkview Home Health and Hospice at Fort Wayne, and to the "Worship for Shut-Ins" program.
