Work at new city hall will snarl traffic Wednesday

August 21, 2014

Traffic at 2nd and Monroe streets in Decatur may be limited or even banned for a few hours Wednesday as air conditioning units are removed by a large crane from the top of the onetime hospital/First State Bank building that will soon become Decatur’s new city hall.
City Engineer Nate Rumschlag told city council Tuesday night the general contractor for the renovation of the building has scheduled Aug. 27 as the date for removal, weather permitting. At this time, it’s not know exactly how traffic will be handled in that area during the removal, but there will be some disruption.
Another disruption will be needed later when new units are placed on the roof.
