Wolfe sets senior slugging marks

    WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Decatur-area resident Bill Wolfe on Thursday concluded a record-breaking season playing for the Winter Haven Phillies of the Winter Haven, Fl. Senior Softball League.
    Wolfe, who pitched in professional baseball decades ago, also for the Philadelphia Phillies, capped another successful winter softball season in Florida with a red-hot final week that enabled the righthanded slugger to lead the league in six offensive categories, setting three all-time league records in the process.
    Wolfe won the batting title with an .825 average, breaking the old record by 60 points. His .849 on-base percentage topped the old mark of .771 at Winter Haven. His OPS, a combination of on-base percentage and slugging percentage, was 2.358, breaking the old mark of 2.302.
    Wolfe led the league in triples with 11 and with walks at 15. He was tops in slugging percentage with a 1.509.
    Wolfe plays with several traveling senior softball teams and has been on several world championship clubs.
