Wayne H. Hirschy

    Wayne H. Hirschy, 91, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    Wayne was born on September 1, 1921, in Adams County to the late Henry C. and Selma (Walchle) Hirschy.
    On December 6, 1941, Wayne married Dortha M. Ray; she preceded him in death on February 19, 2012.
    Wayne was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 43. He retired in 1985 from C.T.S. with 19 years of service. Wayne served in the United States Air Force during World War II, in the 8th Air Force in England, the 9th Air Force in France, and Air Service Command in U.S.
    Among survivors are three sons, Jerry (Alice) Hirschy of Monroe, David (Libby) Hirschy of Peoria, Ill., and Keith (Gina) Hirschy of Pikeville, N.C.; two daughters, Jo Ann (Bill) Strait of Monroe, and Phyllis (Jim) Stauffer of Yorktown, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
    Wayne was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Drake Hill, and brother, Raymond Hirschy.
    Visitation will be from 11 a.m.– 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, and from 9-10 a.m. on Monday, February 11, at Monroe United Methodist Church.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 a.m. on Monday at Monroe United Methodist Church. Pastor Char Allen will officiate.
    Burial will take place in Springhill (Backesto) Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
    Preferred memorials are to Monroe United Methodist Church or to American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
