Warriors oust Jets; Luers cops Sectional 37 crown

    Adams Central concluded its 2010 volleyball season with a 3-0 loss to Woodlan in the Adams Central Sectional 37 semi-finals Saturday afternoon.
    The ACAC champion Warriors stopped the Jets 25-15, 25-21, and 25-21. Bishop Luers, then defeated the Warriors in four games to win the sectional crown. Luers earlier swept past South Adams in three games.
    Senior Hali Wendel led Central with 11 kills, adding 12 digs and 3 assists for the Jets, which closed out at 18-13 for coach Jeremi Schortgen.
    Bess Fiechter put down 7 kills and had 10 digs for the Jets while Sarah Solder had 2 kills, 7 digs, 2 aces and one assist.
    Alyssa Keller put up 18 assists for the match, adding 8 digs and 3 kills. Jenny Schultz had a kill and 7 digs while Abby Snyder had a kill, 13 digs and an assist.
    Jenae Blackburn and Alexa Baller both had 10 digs for the contest.
    In a hard-fought second game, the score was tied 12 times before the Warriors pulled away.
    Bishop Luers swept South Adams in the first semi-final contest, 25-10, 25-16, and 25-5.
    In the title match Saturday afternoon, Luers won the first two games, 23 and 18, then lost 20-25 before closing out the Lady Warriors 25-19 in the fourth game.
    Luers will take a 15-11 record into regional action on Tuesday at Southwood.
