Warne C. Holcombe, 91 of Decatur, passed away February 13, 2012, at his residence.
He was born November 12, 1920, to Charles Reed Holcombe and Nettie L. (Newlon) in Newark Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Harriet E. (Davis) Holcombe, whom he married on April 1, 1944. A Professor Emeritus, Warne taught for over 40 years as a Professor of Humanities at the University of Michigan, and was a member of West Side United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor prior to joining St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Decatur.
He is survived by one son, Charles W. (Jen) Holcombe, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one daughter, Linda J. (Barry) Wicks, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; one sister, Alice K. Holcombe, of Decatur; and three grandchildren, Gregory Wicks, Erica Wicks and Andrea Holcombe.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Rev. George Holcombe; and a sister, Esther Jean Holcombe.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 17, at 4:30 p.m., with calling prior, at Woodcrest Retirement Home with Reverend George Phillips presiding.
