Walgreen holdup arrest made

November 15, 2012

An Adams County Crime Stoppers tip has led to the arrest of a Fort Wayne man in connection with the June 11 robbery of the Decatur Walgreen Pharmacy.
Decatur Police arrested David M. Whalen, 20, on Wednesday following an investigation. Detective Leonard Corral, Jr., said he had received the Crime Stoppers tip on October 9 and the eventual followup led police to identify Whalen.
A warrant for Whalen's arrest was issued by Adams County Circuit Court, charging him with possession of a narcotic drug, which is a class B felony, and robbery, a class C felony.
Whalen is alleged to have entered the local pharmacy earlier this year and to have demanded narcotic drugs from the pharmacist on duty. The pharmacist complied with the demand.
Corral said this morning, "Crime Stoppers is a valuable tool for police and this arrest proves the program works." He continued, "The fact that Whalen has been arrested and charges filed are mere accusations and Whalen is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty."
