Voglewede hit .395, belted 14 home runs and knocked in 59 runs in 62 games over the last two seasons for the Braves. He played third base and left field for BHS and excelled on the mound as well. The 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander posted a 1.78 ERA in 59 innings pitched the last two seasons. He finished 5-4, struck out 58 while walking just 22 and had two saves. He fanned 17 batters in one day of sectional play this season. Voglewede fanned 12 in the BHS win over Peru and then added five strikeouts pitching the three innings of the sectional championship game against Norwell.
“We are really pleased to get Brandon, who is a talented position player and pitcher,” Cougars’ head coach Greg Roberts said. “He’s a solid hitter and produced good power numbers for Bellmont the last two years.”
Voglewede had five homers in 2011, nine in 2010, and four multi-homer games in two seasons. He had three hits including a home run, scored four runs and knocked in three in a 13-4 win over Columbia City earlier this season. He was a 2011 Hoosier Diamond 3A Preseason All-State Team selection as an outfielder.
“I need to work on my plate discipline when I get to the collegiate level,” Voglewede said. “I’ve got to be smarter and work deeper in the count. I hope to get in a lot of pitching as well.
“USF is a good fit for me and what I want to study,” continued Voglewede, who plans on studying film and business.”
Brandon is the son of Teresa and Greg Voglewede of Decatur.
As a junior in 2010, Brandon hit .444 with 41 RBI, 36 hits and nine home runs. He finished sixth in Indiana in home runs and ninth in RBI. He also posted a 3-0 record on the mound and threw a no-hitter against Northrop High School. He was a Class 3A Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State honorable mention selection. He was also a Northeast Hoosier Conference second team selection a corner infield.
Voglewede delivered a record-setting performance in May of the 2010 season when he went 6-for-6, hit two home runs, two doubles and knocked in 10 runs against Concordia High School. He set Bellmont records for RBI and Hits in a game.
