Virginia A. Swygart, 89, of Decatur, passed away at 11:10 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
Virginia was born in Dixon, Ind., on Thursday, September 20, 1923, to the late Charles and Samantha (Murchland) Waterman.
She married Robert L. Swygart Sr. on March 21, 1942, in Fort Wayne; he passed away on May 23, 1985.
She was a homemaker, as well as the owner and operator of High Street Bar in Montpelier for 33 years.
Among survivors are her son, Robert L. (Janice) Swygart Jr. of Decatur; two daughters, Sandra S. (Gene) McKean and Patricia A. (Don) Kriegel, both of Decatur; 12 grandchildren, Laura Clough, Mark McKean, Michael Swygart, Eliza Erxleben, Erin Heyerly, John Kriegel, Elizabeth "Betsy" Kriegel, Scott Young, Anthony Swygart, Christopher Swygart, Joseph Swygart, and Jeremy Swygart; 12 great-grandchildren, Kayla Boots, Laurell Clough, Samuel McKean, Adam Swygart, Aaron "A.J." Swygart, Zachary Swygart, Trevor Swygart, Lorenz Conrad, Alivia Reinhart, Adrianna Kriegel, Luke Heyerly, Jenna Heyerly; and a great-great-grandson, Jaden Boots.
She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Swygart; grandson, Robert G. Swygart; three brothers, Byron, Marvin, and Charles Waterman; and sister, Barbara McIntosh.
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, at the Woodcrest Porter Auditorium, and from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 18, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Waterman and Chaplain John Follett officiating.
Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery.
