Vincent L. Smith

    Vincent L. Smith, 74, Convoy, Ohio, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at his residence.
    He was born May 30, 1940, in Fort Wayne, son of the late Charles and Opal (Lyon) Smith.
    Vincent served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He was a member of the Van Wert American Legion, transferring his membership from the Decatur American Legion. He was a retired barber and retired from Sunoco in Van Wert, Ohio. Vincent coached baseball in Wren, Ohio for many years.
   He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Convoy.
  Surviving are four children, Dawndee (Ken) Smith-Joyce of Chaplin, S.C., Julie (Richard) Smith of Van Wert, Vincent L. (Jessica) Smith Jr. of Elkart and Dr. Anthony Smith of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mimi Gilbert, Jaylyn Smith, Clair Smith and Emma Smith; and a sister, Mary Christine (Kip) Mohr of Stow, Ohio.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Dianna (Hill) Smith.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home and Crematory, Van Wert, with Ray Etzler officiating.
    Burial is in Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
    Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Van Wert American Legion Post 40 et 8 Nursing Scholarship Fund.
