March of Dimes walk gets new name

Decatur and covering am approximate four-mile course.
    Registration will start at 1 p.m. and the walk will commence at 2 p.m.
    The local March of Dimes event will be one of nine such activities throughout Indiana that day, including Indianapolis, Muncie, and Lake County (at Valparaiso).

    "The March of Dimes champions the needs of moms and babies across the nation," the organization said in a news release. "The money you give through March for Babies supports livesaving research and services, education, and advocacy that help babies get a healthy start.
    The organization also released the following statistics for an average week in Indiana, when 1,676 babies are born:
    • 182 of them to teenage mothers.
    • 209 of them to mothers who had inadequate prenatal care.
    • 221 of them are premature.
    • 135 of them have low birthweight.
    • 13 of them die before their first birthday.
