Fred retired from the former International Harvester Corp. in Fort Wayne after 23 years of service and also retired from Goeglein's Catering in Fort Wayne after 17 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, the former Susan K. Ball, to whom he was married for 47 years; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Cynthia) Bergdall of Decatur and Catherine Shull of Farmland, Indiana; two son, Larry Hoffman and Paul Hoffman (and wife Renisea), both of Fort Wayne; one brother, Kenneth Hoffman of Monroeville; and nine grandchildren.
A brother, Paul Hoffman, died in infancy.
A private funeral service will be held later; there will be no visitation.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church (Flatrock) or to the Village of Heritage Wheelchair Walking Trail Fund.
