Bracing for more snow
Written by Reporter1

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for nearly the entire state. Snowfall totals were expected to range from about 3 inches in the Evansville area to a foot or more in northwestern Indiana, followed by possible drifting from wind gusts up to 30 mph.
Some parts of the state saw up to 10 inches of snow from a storm that started on Friday. The Decatur weather station recorded four and a half inches, all of which is, of course, still on the ground.
As of this morning, forecasters were predicting four to eight inches of snow in the Decatur area through tonight, with possibly another inch on Wednesday. That will be compounded by some big winds that are likely to cause major drifting.
The Decatur weather station reported half an inch of snow and a 21-degree reading at 7 a.m. today.
At 8:30 a.m. today, neither the Adams County Highway Department plows nor the Decatur Street Department plows were in action. But, with up to eight inches of snow possible, plus high winds, spokesmen for each department said the vehicles would be out later in the morning.
Decatur Street Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert said his staff applied salt to streets, especially intersections, today and yesterday in preparation.
Assistant County Highway Superintendent Shaun Roe said he and Highway Superintendent Mark Mitchel would drive around to check road conditions before deciding when to send out the plows.
Roe and Gilbert also said that even worse than lots of snow will be lots of wind.
The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette reported in today's edition that up to 10 inches could fall there.
Such a snowfall could rank near the top 10 highest for a two-day period in Fort Wayne, according to Nick Greenawalt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. In total, 6 to 10 inches of snow is expected to fall throughout northeast Indiana and portions of Ohio through Wednesday night, according to the report.
“It’s a fairly significant amount,” Greenawalt said, adding that the Fort Wayne’s record for two-day snowfall was set in March of  1964 with 14.3 inches.
A high near 27 was expected in Decatur today, with an east wind around 15 mph. Tonight, widespread blowing of snow is likely, brought on by a north wind between 15 and 20 mph. The low should be around 20 degrees.
Widespread blowing of snow is forecast for this area Wednesday, with more north winds at 15-20 mph and possibly gaining in strength in the afternoon. Another inch of snow and a high near 25 and predicted.
Further widespread blowing of snow is said on tap for Wednesday night, with a low around 17 — but no more precipitation.
No snow is forecast for Thursday and Friday, either, with highs in the low- to mid-20s. A low of around 10 is said on tap for Friday night.
