Effective January 1, the solid waste board will implement the following rates for trash disposal: • Residential — $6 for up to 99 pounds; $11.45 for 100-299 pounds; $19.45 for 300-999 pounds; $40.55 per ton for 1,000 pounds and above. • Commercial — $40.55 per ton, with a minimum charge of $29.75. • Municipal — $36 per ton. • Tires — Passenger tires, $2.20 per tire, $3.30 per tire with rim; light truck tires (15-16.5-inch), $3.30 per tire, $6.60 with rim; semi tractor/trailer tires, $7.70 per tire, $9.90 with rim; tractor tire, $16.50. • Items with freon: Refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers, $21 each; with brought with other trash, fees will include the load charge plus $15 for freon removal. • Paint, used oil, antifreeze — Commercial, charged by weight; residential, no charge. New fees that will take effect in 2010 include additional charges for the commercial disposal of computers and electronic devices. The fees include $6 per computer processor, monitor, printer, and small fax and copy machines. The fee for larger copiers will be $37.50. Those items will be accepted from individual residents at the minimum $6 disposal charge. There will be no charge for the disposal of computer keyboards, speakers, modems and other peripheral devices. The disposal by business and commercial customers of fluorescent and mercury vapor light bulbs will also include new fees: 25 cents per bulb for 4-foot fluorescent lights; 50-cents for 8-foot fluorescent bulbs; and a $1 per bulb for mercury vapor lights. The fees charged to business, industry and schools also include a 48-cent charge for each compact fluorescent light bulb. During its brief meeting on Monday, the solid waste board also authorized contracts for 2010 for Tim Baker and Rebecca Cochran, the board's attorney and accountant, respectively.
