Slaying suspects face murder charges

defendants about their financial status, Hanselman named the Wells County Public Defender's office to represent them.
    Cody Barkley, 18, was set for trial on February 8 and has a January 15 deadline if he wishes to plead guilty.
    Jonathan Thatcher, 18, was set for trial on February 1 and has a January 11 deadline if he wants to plead guilty.
    Dustin Jackson, 22, was scheduled for trial on April 12 and has a March 8 deadline if he decides to plead guilty.
    Cody Mendez, 17, who was formally identified in court after his identity had originally been shielded due to his age, was scheduled for trial on April 5 and has a February 12 deadline if he chooses to plead guilty.
    Mendez is a Bellmont High School student and Thatcher, a former Bellmont student, is a senior at Adams Central High School this school year. Barkley graduated from Bellmont last spring.
    All four are being held without bond in the Wells County Jail.
    The Wednesday night shooting, reportedly involving several shotgun blasts, took the life of Justin Sprow, 19. Police have reported that the incident stemmed from a bad drug deal a few weeks ago.
