Commissioners.
Doug Milligan, town manager of Geneva and its former clerk-treasurer, visited Monday's commissioners' meeting to explain the request for $7.8 million from funds contained in the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
He said that, if the money is awarded, it would go to the restoration of the covered bridge near Ceylon, replacing a bridge over the Wabash River, and an unknown number of trail miles.
The application deadline is today, September 15, and the application is being made to the U.S. Department of Transportation by Commonwealth Engineering of Indianapolis, which has been hired by SATI for such work.
Milligan said later that SATI will know if the application has been accepted or rejected sometime this fall.
Commissioners Ed Coil and Kim Fruechte backed the idea to apply for the federal funds. Commissioner Doug Bauman is temporarily hospitalized.

Bauman in hospital
Adams County Commissioner Doug Bauman is spending about two weeks in Adams Memorial Hospital to recover from surgery to repair a perforated colon.
The other two commissioners, Kim Fruechte and Ed Coil, said at Monday's meeting of the commissioners that Bauman entered the hospital last week for surgery and is now recuperating.
