Among all 92 Indiana counties for July, LaGrange was second-worst and Noble was third-worst; Fayette County led the state, at 10.9 percent. The other northeastern county percentages last month were as follows: Kosciusko, 7.8; Wabash, 7.8; Whitley, 7.6; DeKalb, 7.5; Huntington, 7.3; Steuben, 7.2; Wells, 6.5; and Allen, 6.4. It was reported by state officials that in July, 14,200 people lost their jobs in those 11 counties and that, statewide, 16,500 people lost jobs during July — third-worst in the nation after Florida and Georgia.
