Vernon “Ben” Hebble, Jr., 66, of Decatur, died on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Chalet Village in Berne.
Ben was born on March 24, 1946, in Adams County to the late Vernon B. Hebble, Sr., and Lois Mae (Straub) Hebble.
On March 8, 1969, he married Teresa R. Heimann.
Ben was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Redman’s Lodge and American Legion Post 43. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from General Electric in Decatur and Fort Wayne after 32 years of service.
He was a 1964 graduate of Monmouth High School.
Among survivors are his wife of 43 years, Teresa “Terri” Hebble of Decatur; four sons, Douglas Hebble, Jon A. Hebble, Joseph (Erika) Hebble, all of Decatur, and Darryl (Sara) Hebble of Griffith, Ind.; daughter, Darlene (Mark) Juengel of Decatur; four sisters Iris Urick, Holly (Jeff) Rambo, Laurel (Kevin) Buckingham, and Heather (Dan "Rabbit" Bauman) Hebble, all of Decatur; and 13 grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 1, with visitation one hour prior from 9-10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Rev. Father David Voors will officiate.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Preferred memorials are to Masses and St. Vincent’s Food Pantry/Utilities.
