Vergene L. Yake

Vergene L. Yake, 94, Monroe, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital. Vergene was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Adams County, to the late Joel and Cora (Winteregg) Neuenschwander. She married Evan E. Yake May 28, 1941; he preceded her in death Dec. 29, 2001. Vergene was a member of Monroe United Brethren Church. She taught at Kirkland and Adams Central Bible schools for 25 years. she was involved in many activities at the church. Vergene was a homemaker. Survivors are a daughter, Carolyn (William) Schindler of Monroe; a brother, Delmar Neuenschwander of Berne; three sisters, Floine (George) Dynes of Geneva, Willodyne Luginbill and Marjorie (Bill) Simon, both of Berne; two grandchildren, Davis (Jodi) Chaires and Brent (Jeri) Schindler; three great-grandchildren, Jayde (Travis) Figgins, Jeramy (Haley) Chaires and Emily Schindler; two step great-grandchildren, Kristin and Michael Broderick; four great-great-grandchildren, Brennen and Paige Figgins; and Libby and Slade Chaires. Vergene was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman and LeOrace Neuenschwander; two sisters, Ramona Schwartz and Ellowyne Schindler; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Schindler. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Monroe United Brethren Church with Pastor Troy Green officiating. Burial will be in Ray Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3–7 p.m. Friday at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home. Preferred memorials may be made to Monroe United Brethren Church.
