Velma S. Zelt

    Velma S. Zelt, 98, of Fort Wayne, formerly of rural Decatur, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
    Velma was born on August 22, 1914, in New Haven to the late John D. and Julia L. (Bradtmiller) Hemsoth.
    On May 22, 1937, she married Alfred H. Zelt; he tragically died on November 17, 1952.
    Velma was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen. She was a homemaker and also worked for Lutheran Home, where she retired after 25 years of service.
    Among survivors are four sons, Lester (Janice) Zelt of Hoagland, Roger (Carolyn) Zelt of New Haven, Jim (Dora) Zelt of Decatur, and Stan Zelt of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Helen (Don) Selking of New Haven, Shirley (Ron) Johnson of Gray, Tenn., and Janet (Dave) Farabaugh of Sterling, Mass.; two sisters, Leona Branning of Arcola and Margaret (Ed) Fick of Fort Wayne; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
    Velma was preceded in death by two grandsons; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Esther Koeneman and Doretta Schlegel; and a brother, William Hemsoth.
    Visitation will be from noon–4 p.m. Saturday, May 25, and noon-1 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen Parish Hall.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen, with Pastor Peter Brock officiating.
    Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.
    Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen, Worship for Shut-Ins, or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
