Veda L. Edlund

    Veda L. Edlund, 87, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
    Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, she grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota; lived most of her married life in Michigan; and moved to Indiana after the death of her husband in 1973.
    She was a homemaker and educator.
    While in Fort Wayne, she worked for 10 years with the Brookside-Parkerdale Association neighborhood watch.
    She also has been a very active member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Berne.
    She was an avid gardener, bird watcher, dog lover, cook, and humorist.
    She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Robert) Gorkiewicz of Charlevoix, Michigan, and Julie (Martin) Mansfield of rural Berne; a son, Dr. James Edlund, a physician in Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren, Kristin (Josh) Ahern, Joseph Liverance, Natalie (Robert) Edlund-Vetesse, Anna (John) Magnuson, Bethany Edlund, Samantha Mansfield, Chelsea Gorkiewicz, Liza Gorkiewicz, and Peter Gorkiewicz; and four great-grandchildren, Geoffrey Goeters, Ryon and Gavin Magnuson, and Miles Vetesse.
    Veda was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace R. Edlund, and granddaughters Kerrin Liverance-Abraham and Nina Rose Vetesse.
    Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8-10 a.m. at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd. in Fort Wayne.
    The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at St. George's Episcopal Church, 1195 Hendricks St., in Berne, with calling one hour prior to the service. Father Larry Smith of St. George's Church will officiate.
    Preferred memorials are to the Bluffton-Wells Animal Shelter/Humane Society, to the Parkview Hospital Foundation in Fort Wayne, to the Christian Church Foundation, or to the Kerrin Liverance-Abraham Memorial Fund.
