United Way kickoff next week

United Way Campaign Chairwoman Leslie Rhoades

    The 2011 campaign of the United Way of Adams County will open with a luncheon next Wednesday, September 7, at 11:30 a.m. in the South Adams Boys' and Girls' Club at Berne.
    The program will include the announcement of this year's monetary goal to aid 32 local are area organizations and agencies, plus viewing the campaign's promotional video.
    Also scheduled is the recognition of the 32 recipients of United Way funds as well as the United Way board and 2011 campaign team.
    Leading this year's drive will be campaign chairwoman Leslie Rhoades of Decatur, who will make some remarks, as will United Way President Ron Storey.
    Lunch will be catered by Bella Tower. Sponsors of the kickoff event are Wells Fargo Bank, First Merchants Bank, First Bank of Berne, and Bank of Geneva.
    The mission of the UWAC, according to an announcement, is "to improve health, human, and social conditions in Adams County by promoting organizational cooperation, stimulating volunteer participation, mobilizing and deploying community resources, and seeking solutions to urgent community problems."
    The United Way also says, "How to Live United: join hands, open your heart, inspire hope, create a better tomorrow, and think of 'we' before 'me.'"
    The UWAC effort will seek donations from people, businesses, etc. in seven areas: industry; commercial; government; finance, insurance, and real estate; professional; public service and education; agriculture; and rural areas and the Amish community.

    Boys' and Girls' Club of Adams County.
    Cancer Services of Northeastern Indiana.
    C&C Bible Fellowship.
    Community and Family Services.
    Compassionate Ministries and Project Share.
