Two walkers are struck downtown

November 30, 2012

Two pedestrians were transported to Adams Memorial Hospital for evaluation after they were struck by a motorist in downtown Decatur Thursday afternoon.
According to a report from the Decatur Police Department, Suzanne Elliott, 74, and Larry Elliott, 80, both of Lake Shore Drive, Decatur, were on foot and attempting to cross Monroe Street at the intersection of Second Street when they were struck by a vehicle operated by Breanna E. Price, 22, 703 N. 3rd St., Decatur.
The conditions of the pedestrians were reported as A-minus, or good.
Price, who was headed west on Monroe Street, told officers she was attempting to turn left onto Second Street and did not see the pedestrians crossing the road. Two witnesses told police the pedestrians had the crossing signal and were legally crossing the street at the time of the incident, which occurred at 3:15 p.m.
Price was cited for failure to yield the right of way and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
