True Value nabs second place at Hoagland

    In the Eight and under All-Star tournament held in Hoagland this weekend, Decatur True Value placed second out of four teams losing in the championship on Sunday to the undefeated New Haven All-Stars.
    In pool play, True Value topped Hoagland, 19-11. Kolton Fawbush led the way with a spectacular day at the plate including three doubles and a pair of triples. Carter Thomas had three hits including a single, double, and triple. Chase Lenegar had four hits including a double, while Trevor Walker and Austin Christner had three hits each. Nathan Schultz had a double and a single and Theryn White and Ethyn Bailer had two hits each. Prestin Siefring had a double and two singles, while Magnuss Lee had a single.
    In game two of pool play, Decatur slugged the All-Stars from Monmouth, 16-4. Lenegar had a homerun and triple to highlight the batting for True Value. Fawbush had a triple, double, and single, as Thomas and Lee each had two hits. Schultz had three hits including a double, Bailer had two hits, White had a triple, and Walker, Christner, & Siefring each had a hit.
    In tournament play, Decatur drew Monmouth again, notching the same 16-4 score as the first meeting but in four innings of play. Siefring had a triple and a pair of singles, Thomas had two doubles and a single, and Walker and Bailer also had three hits in the game. Christner had a triple as one of two hits as Lenegar, Fawbush, Schultz, and White each netted two hits as well. Lee singled in the contest.
    In the championship game, New Haven, a team that beaten teams by the 12-run rule in all three games, faced off with True Value and earned the title by the slimmest of margins by a 13-12 count.
    Thomas had three hits including a double to lead the scoring, while Lenegar had a triple and a single. Fawbush, Schultz, Siefring, Lee and Bailer each had two hits, while White and Walker had three hits apiece.
