Tomasa M. Serna

    Tomasa M. Serna, 81, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital.
    She was born in Malakoff, Texas, on December 28, 1930, to the late Isaac and Alejandra (Guerrero) Mendez.
    On October 28, 1950, she married Eriberto “Bob” Serna; he preceded her in death December 8, 2009.
    Tomasa was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and Hispanic Society. She was a homemaker and mother to all.
    Among survivors are two sons, Jesse J. Serna and James J. Serna, both of Decatur; three daughters, Mary (Ken) Bradford, Anna (Fred) Espinosa and Linda (John) Amstutz, all of Decatur; two brothers, Blas (Sarah) Mendez and Paul (Delores) Mendez, both of Decatur; two sisters, Connie (Richard) Moreno of Fort Wayne and Rita (David) Vargas of Wren, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.    
    She was preceded in death by a grandson, B.J. Lopez; two brothers, Robert Sr. and Manuel Mendez; and four sisters, Mary Robles, Barbara Gomez, Susan Chavarria and Annie (Garcia) Tyler.
    Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 20, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 8 p.m., at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
    A 10 a.m. mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, July 21, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to service. Father David Voors and Father George Gabet, FSSP are concelebrants.
    Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
    Preferred memorials are to the family.
