Thomas L. “Tom” Butler, 77, of rural Decatur, died Monday, July 30, 2012, at Woodcrest Extended Care Unit.
Tom was born in Adams County on October 17, 1934, to the late Hubert L. and Luella A. (Kelley) Butler.
He married Brenda M. (Levy) on March 14, 1954; she preceded him in death on November 26, 2007.
Tom was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 43 and Moose Lodge 1311. Tom served his country in the United State Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He retired in 1996 after 39 years on the road with Schneider Transport.
Among survivors are a son, Bruce L. Butler of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Darcine K. Savio of Decatur, Leda E Joslin and Elaine (Bill) Jackson, both of Fort Wayne; four brothers, Joseph Butler, Paul (Beverly) Butler, Jack Butler and James “Jim” (Beverly) Butler, all of Decatur; a sister, Judy (William) Murray of Decatur; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Scott Butler and three son-in-laws.
Visitation will be at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, 2-8 p.m. on Friday, and one hour prior to services on Saturday, August 4.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, also at the funeral home, with Pastor John Newberg officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery rural Berne, with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Preferred memorials are to the Wounded Warrior Project.
