Funeral services are scheduled next week for Spc. Nick Taylor, the 20-year-old Berne man who was killed July 16 in Afghanistan.
Visitation will be held next Monday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 8 p.m. in the South Adams High School gymnasium.
Services also will be held in the gymnasium, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31.
Burial will be at the M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne, with full graveside military rites.
A member of the Indiana National Guard, Spc. Taylor and a fellow Hoosier soldier, Spc. Sergio Eduardo Perez of Crown Point, were killed during an attack that included rocket-propelled grenade fire and small arms fire in the Kandahar Province during a mounted route clearance patrol on July 16 (Afghanistan time), according to a Guard statement released earlier.
Both men were members of the 713th Engineer Company, headquartered in Valparaiso, and were assigned to clearing military supply and combat routes.
About 100 members of the unit deployed to Afghanistan last October. The unit is due to return in September.
The 713th Engineer Company lost four other members in a Jan. 6 explosion, also in Kandahar.
