A suspicious package found next to a Decatur business Wednesday morning brought about a swift response from law enforcement officials and wounded up with an Indiana State Police Bomb Squad (EOD team) being called to investigate.
The package apparently was not a threat, however.
Decatur Police Chief Ken Ketzler said that at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, his department was notified by B & D Automotive Repair at 721 W. Monroe Street in regards to an object next to the building. B&D is the former Zimmerman's Mobil service station.
After an initial investigation, local police notified state police officials to determine whether or not the item in question was dangerous. Upon arrival, ISP technicians carefully removed the device to a safe area south of the building and destroyed it with their water cannon, Ketzler said.
After looking at the remains of the item, police concluded it was not an explosive device, the chief added.
The incident still remains under investigation by Decatur police and the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).
