A brief but intense summer thunderstorm carrying extremely high winds and heavy rainfall passed through the Willshire area shortly before noon Sunday, leaving several area residents without electrical service for as much as four hours.
The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office reported no serious damage as a result of the storm, although an AEP power line was downed across Ohio 81 just east of Willshire. Evidence of wind damage to area corn fields was also present.
A semi truck and trailer parked at a home on Ohio 81 was blown over in the high winds, and a car traveling the rural highway was blown off the road, nearly striking a utility pole.
