SENIOR NIGHT SLATED — Senior night festivities are slated for this Thursday at the Teepee as the Bellmont volleyball team hosts Jay County. Recently, Bellmont earned the NHC championship and this senior group has gone 28-0 in four years in the league after beating Columbia City and receiving the trophy last week.     The realignment of the IHSAA State Volleyball Tournament will likely translate into a 3A Regional championship match at Bellmont, it was noted today by veteran Bellmont coach Craig Krull.
Bellmont will tangle with Peru in semi-final match of the Wayne Volleyball Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 23. A victory in that tourney, and the No. 4 Squaws are heavily favored, would put Bellmont at home on Tuesday, Oct. 26, versus the winner of Sectional 21 at Western. That winner may have a tough mid-week road trip as West Lafayette, Twin Lakes, and Frankfort are among the schools in the field.
Adams Central will host a 2A Sectional, and a tough one. The Jets will have to win three matches to advance out of their own tourney, starting with Bluffton on the first night of the affair. That winner will take on ACAC champ Woodlan in the semi-finals. Bishop Luers will meet South Adams in the other semi-final contest.
The one-game regionals will send four teams into action in two separate semistates. Bellmont will play at the Plymouth Semistate. Semistate winners will then have a one-match state finals.
"This is the alignment they used in softball last year," stated Krull.
"It just so happens that the even-numbered sectional winners host regionals, and that could be us (Sectional 22). The winner at Heritage (23) will have to travel all the way to Muncie area (Yorktown, Delta).
"The alignment makes the semistate about like what regional used to be. There will probably be four ranked teams in that tourney (Oct. 30)," stated Krull.
At Wayne, Maconaquah will meet the host Generals and that winner will take on Norwell in one semi-final contest. Bellmont and Peru are on the other side.
In Sectional 23, host Heritage will clash with Bishop Dwenger for the right to meet Leo in the semi-finals. Concordia will clash with New Haven and Angola with Harding on the other side.
Yorktown is the solid favorite in Sectional 24 (3A) at Delta and will face Blackford in the opening round. Eastbrook and Delta will clash in one semi-final battle.
In the Plymouth Semistate, the winner in the Bellmont area will clash with the survivor of the regional meeting between the winners at Plymouth and winners at Tippecanoe Valley in the opening round. The Delta-Heritage winner will take on the Hammond Clark-Kankakee Vallley regional winner.
