Stars outswim Adams Central

    BERNE— The Starfire swim squads defended their home pool on Tuesday night against county-rival Adams Central in a tight girls meet, 84-82, while the boys coasted to a 104-73 victory.
    Despite their limited numbers this season, South Adams has been dominant in their individual events leaving the final numbers a bit misleading this season. The Lady Stars finally earned a “W” to go along with the excellent times against Central.
    Cady Farlow and Ellie Kaverman were winners in all four events they swam as SA came away with gold in all but the diving and 100 Backstroke, won by AC’s Alexis Coyne with a time of 1:16:58.
    Farlow aided the 200 Medley Relay along with Kaverman, Brandi Robertson, and Riley Thompson with a time of 2:09.25, while also aiding the 400 Relay with Robertson, Audrey Burson, and Victoria Richardson with a time of 4:34.60.
    Individually, Farlow dominated the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.80 followed by Richardson who was second at 2:44.26. Then, Farlow finished first in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:08.22 ahead of teammate Burson who had 1:26.43.
    Kaverman aided the 200 Free Relay with Burson, Richardson and Thompson with a time of 2:02.16 for gold while also winning the 50 Free at :29.06 and the 100 Free at 1:06.98.
    Other winners for the Lady Stars included Richardson in the 500 Free at 6:32.95 and Thompson in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:18.26.
    For AC, Marissa Tupai took first in diving with a score of 137.7, while Carley Myers was second with 123.10. Juliana Bluhm took second in the 500, while Audrey Lee was silver in the 50 Free and the 100 Free. Taylor Clark was second in the 100 Butterfly.
    The Berne boys earned first place in eight of 11 events including one-two finishes five of those events for the dominating win.
    The Starfire men took all three of the relay races from the Jets, while Chris Inniger won two gold events individually with Drew LeFever, Daniel Steffen, and Zach Teeple winning a race each to aid in the win.
    Inniger took gold in the 200 Free (2:07.30) and the 500 Free (5.55.59), while LeFever’s gold was in the 100 Butterfly (1:02.48), Steffen was first in the 100 Breaststroke (1:13.21), and Teeple won the 100 Backstroke (1:04.33). Taking second  for SA was Daniel Burson in the 100 Breaststroke, Shad Swygart in the 100 Backstroke, Jesse Sutton in the 500 Free, and Xavier Rupp in the 100 Butterfly.
    For AC, Gavin Kaehr was a winner in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.38, while Travis Bebout won the 100 Free at :53.80 and Orlando Martinez won the diving with a score of 143.60. Bebout was second in the 200 Free for AC as well.
    Central swims tonight at home against Coldwater starting at 5:30 p.m. while South Adams hosts Angola at the same time.
