HARTFORD CITY— The Berne boys tried to pick up a non-conference win on the road against a the Blackford Bruins but a sluggish start earned them another loss on the season (5-11) after a 61-51 final score.
The Bruins, now 5-9, played slow tempo basketball and their patience paid off for them. The visiting Stars found themselves down 13-8 after the first period and managed only seven points in the second quarter facing a 25-15 deficit heading into the locker room break.
Another offensively barren quarter put the Stars down 38-22 before something clicked for SA coach Andy Brown's team. In the fourth quarter, the Starfires posted a 29-point mark in an effort to furiously comeback from the large lead the Bruins had compiled.
The Starfires gear up for a big, Valentine's Day road test against the Norwell Knights on February 14. The JV game will tip off at 6 p.m.
