INDIANAPOLIS — South Adams all-purpose back Taylor LeFever, quarterback Dustin Wanner and punter Chaise Moore all were given Honorable-Mention on the Class A Associated Press All-State football team released Wednesday afternoon.
No other players from the county were named to the AP team. Norwell's Jeff Shatto, the Knights' strong tight end, was put on the 3A All-State first team.
Though he did not appear on the AP team, Bellmont senior fullback-linebacker Daniel Meyer remains a strong candidate for the North squad for the annual North-South Prep Football All-Star game. A coaches association all-state team will be announced in the next few days.
Bellmont has had three players in that game over the past two seasons.
LeFever had nearly 1400 combined rushing and passing yards for the Starfires this year, and was a key factor in fueling the six-game winning streak which put the Stars in the Sectional 35 championship game versus Churubusco.
'Busco's Kyle Mathewson, who rushed for over 2,000 yards this season and over 4,000 for his career, was named first team All-State in Class A. Linebacker Kyle Jones of Southern Wells was also named first team Class A All-State. 'Busco quarterback Kyle Monk was named to the first team as a defensive back.
LeFever garnered 863 yards on 118 carries (7.3) with 10 rushing touchdowns. He added six more receiving TDs, netting 525 yards on 33 catches (15.8). He had one touchdown on a punt return and gained 200 more yards on special teams.
Wanner hit 70 of 132 passes for 13 touchdowns and just eight interceptions, adding 566 rushing yards on a team-leading 147 carries with nine scores in the SA triple-option.
Moore punted 29 times, averaging 34.4 yards per kick, the best numbers in the area.
Lawrence Central quarterback Tre Roberson topped the 5-A All-State high school football team.
The Indiana recruit passed for 2,611 yards and ran for 1,950 to help his team reach the Class 5A state final. His teammate, offensive tackle Wesley Rogers, joins him on the 5A squad.
Fishers defensive lineman Taylor Halstead, who had four sacks to lead his team to victory in the Class 5A final, also is on the All-State team. He finished the season with 15 sacks. His teammates, guard Jordan Willy and defensive back Brian Sutton, join him on the squad.
For the state champion Bishop Luers Knights put defensive back Ken Mullen, linebacker Steve Kiemaier, and kicker Alex Stronczek on the 2A first team.
Mike Yoder of Bishop Dwenger, the 4A runner-up, made the first team at guard, as did offensive tackle Tony Springman, a 6-7, 240-pounder, and runningback Remound Wright. Defensive back Jared Murphy of Columbia City, which went 10-2 this season, was named to the first team in 4A, as was NHC rushing king Te'Vaughn Hurse of New Haven, who is a junior.
Carroll linebacker Connor Czuk was named to the first team in 5A.
