Stab victim a woman

June 20, 2012

Decatur police today released the name of the individual involving in the stabbing incident early Sunday morning in the 200 block of N. 17th Street.
Police Chief Ken Ketzler said Shelby Affolder, 20, heard a knock on the front door of her apartment and went to answer it around 12:25 a.m. After opening it, a man appeared, stabbed Affolder in the abdomen with a knife and then fled.
Affolder was transported to the hospital by paramedics with what the police originally called "non-life threatening injuries." She was admitted overnight but it was not known whether or not she was still a patient at the hospital today.
The call was originally dispatched to police as a possible domestic situation involving a battery, but Ketzler said that report was not accurate. He said police have several leads in the case and detectives are actively following up on the incident.
Initial reports said the stabbing victim was a man.
