St. Joseph Catholic School recently honored Richard Braun of rural Decatur with The Distinguished Graduate Award.
Braun, who graduated from Decatur Catholic High in 1947, said in a news release that there are many memories of the years he spent at St. Joseph. One that stands out is The Sisters of St. Agnes and how in grade school it was their dedication to make students good kids.
Braun is active in his Catholic faith, it was noted in announcing the award.
The students at St. Joe have enjoyed his cookies, school officials said, pointing out that he was active for many years helping with the annual Smoker and still helps with the athletic banquet.
"He is an example to many of us," said one school official.
Braun has eight children: two daughters, Kink Butler and Bridget Merkle; and six sons,  Louie, Marty, Matt, Sam, Pete and Stuart.
