The Bellmont ladies golf team has been busy before the beginning of the school season this week as they were winners of both their own home tournament on Tuesday at Cross Creek and then won the South Adams Invitational the very next day at the Golf Course of the Limberlost.
In both events, the Squaws won by very narrow margins but coach Andy Heim was pleased with the final results.
"We played well and beat some very good teams this week," Heim noted. "We are playing awesome right now."
Bellmont's 372 team score was enough to top Leo on Tuesday as the Squaws hosted the Lions who finished with a 373, Norwell who finished third at 411, as well as Angola in fourth with a 423 and South Side with a 524.
Rachel Klingensmith earned medalist honors shooting an 80 for the 18 holes, while Amber Nelson from Norwell was second with an 83 and Ashley Kimes shot an 88 for Leo in third overall.
Frosh golfer Morgan Ellsworth shot a 90 on the day for fourth helping the Squaws' cause, while Macy Phegley shot a 96, Kelsey Roth a 106, and Julia Brewer a 109.
Other notable scores included Erika Thorton of Norwell at 91, Leo's Brooke Moser and Anna Feldman at 91 and 95 respectively, Angola's top shooter Morgan Dornte with a 101, and South Side's Zoe Brehm at 101 as well.
On Wednesday, Bellmont spoiled the Starfires' home party at Limberlost with a winning score of 356, just ahead of Canterbury's 358 in second place. SA finished third with a 401, while Fairfield landed fourth with a 418, followed by Jay County (434), Wes-Del Mississinewa (460), Bishop Luers (462), Blackford (470), and Eastbrook (483).
Sydney Willis from South Adams was the medalist honor for the tournament shooting an 80, while Bellmont's Ellsworth was tied for second at 82 with Canterbury's Jaclyn Sider. Klingensmith was just behind in fourth with an 84, while Fairfield's Regina Raber shot an 85 for fifth, the only other player to shoot in the 80s.
With all five golfers keeping under 100 strokes, Bellmont's consistency won the day as Phegley shot a 94, Brewer a 96, and Roth a 97 rounding out the scores. For SA, Alaina Johnston aided with a 99, Kelli Lehman shot a 109, Sidney Sprunger a 113, and Jaci Gorrell rounded out with a 114.
Other notable scores included Eastbrook's Austina Cansler with a 95 to lead her squad, Wes-Del's top shooter Melanie Whitesell at 97, Jay County's Sidney Mathias at 99, Luers' Brianna Burelison at 107, and Zoie Mann from Blackford with a 103.
Bellmont was third at Leo yesterday with stats forthcoming.
