FORT WAYNE— The new-look Squaws had a tall order to take on in their season opener on Tuesday night as they started the coach Andy Heim era with a tough 53-22 loss at the hands of the Concordia Lady Cadets.
The Squaws managed only five points in the first half (two in the first quarter), putting themselves in a big 28-5 hole at the half that was just too much to handle for the new Bellmont squad.
Returning starter for Bellmont, senior Allison Gutierrez, and senior Mikala Quinn were the leading scorers for the Squaws with four and five points respectively, while Taylor Kuhnle contributed with four points as well.
"I think our success will depend on how hard we work in practice," new Squaw coach Andy Heim commented earlier this week.
The JV lost their contest in much closer fashion, 32-24.
Both varsity and JV will look to improve against the Lady Warriors of Woodlan this Saturday at 7:30. This game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was postponed due to the Braves' regional football game in West Lafayette.
